IDS presents its first USB video class camera models!
UVC industrial cameras with USB interface and 2 megapixel CMOS sensor
IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH, global market leader in USB industrial cameras, extends its portfolio with the first UVC cameras with USB 2.0 interface. The small board-level cameras measuring only 36 x 36 mm with 2 megapixel CMOS sensor cameras bring the advantage that users do not need to install a particular driver to use the cameras – thanks to USB video class. Connect camera, get an image – it could not be easier. The cameras provide platform-independent operation using Windows, Linux or Mac OS X.
Users have the choice between two models: Board-level version UV-1551LE with M12 lens holder for budget-priced S-mount lenses and only board-level version UV-1552LE. Both models with 1/3“ 2MP CMOS sensor (MT9D131STC) by Aptina provide a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and 15 frames per second. Also available: VGA (640 x 480), SVGA (800 x 600) and HD (1024 x 768). There are manually adjustable features like brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness and exposure time. Users may implement own applications for the UVC camera via DirectShow (Windows) or Video4Linux (Linux). The new UVC board-level cameras are perfectly suitable for applications in machine vision, mechanical and apparatus engineering, transportation, security and process monitoring as well as in embedded and kiosk systems. IDS recommends VLC player and AMCap (Windows), GUVCView (Linux) and Facetime (OS X) for a quick set-up and evaluation of the camera.
UVC (also USB video class) is a standard that combines certain devices into a special class of USB devices. UVC industrial cameras by IDS bring the advantage that there is no more need for a special driver to use the cameras. The standard UVC driver allows the cameras to operate independently of the manufacturer. Therefore as soon as the user connects the camera to his or her computer, the camera can be used straightaway to deliver images.
