
Winner of the WITec Paper Award 2010
February 23, 2011 – WITec GmbH, a market leaders in the field of nano-analytical microscope systems is pleased to announce the winner of the WITec Paper Award 2010. The award goes to Konrad Meister, Diedrich Schmidt, Erik Bründermann and Martina Havenith from Ruhr-University Bochum as authors of the paper: “Confocal Raman microspectroscopy as an analytical tool to assess the mitochondrial status in human spermatozoa” (Analyst, 2010, 135, 1370 – 1374). The paper was submitted by Dr. Diedrich Schmidt who will additionally receive a 500 Euro Amazon Gift card.
Due to the very high number of advanced papers submitted to WITec, the jury made the decision to not only give away the Paper Award but to also honorably mention two other exceptional papers. The following papers have been selected to receive an Honorable Mention:
“Confocal Raman and electronic microscopy studies on the topotactic conversion of calcium carbonate from Pomacea lineate shells into hydroxyapatite bioceramic materials in phosphate media” (Micron, 41, 983-989, 2010), by S.M. dePaula, M.F.G. Huila, K.Araki and H.E. Toma, from the Institute of Chemistry, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil
“Iron-Clad Fibers: A Metal-Based Biological Strategy for Hard Flexible Coatings”, (Science, 328, 216 – 220, 2010 ) by M. J. Harrington, A. Masic, N. Holten-Andersen, J. H. Waite and P. Fratzl, from the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, Germany, the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA and the University of Chicago, USA.
As a prize for the Honorable Mention each submitting author will receive the new Springer “Confocal Raman Microscopy” book, edited by WITec scientists.
The WITec Paper Award honors the best peer-reviewed scientific paper submitted including results and images acquired with a WITec microscope system. A WITec panel has evaluated the papers in terms of scientific relevance, data quality, and the level of instrument-feature utilization.
