Verde Hyperspectral Imaging Camera from HORIBA Scientific is Winner of 50th Annual R&D 100 Award
Unique Hyperspectral Imaging Camera Recognized as one of the 100 Most Technologically Significant Products Introduced in 2011
June 26, 2012 – Edison, NJ – HORIBA Scientific, a leading innovator in the manufacture of high performance scientific and analytical equipment, is proud to announce that our new Verde™ Hyperspectral camera has been recognized by an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year.
Verde is the first hyperspectral camera designed to measure a complete hyperspectral image set simultaneously. Verde simultaneously captures the complete spectrum of every point in an image in a single measurement in as little as 3 milliseconds. Verde uses a patented 2-D dispersion element to capture all spatial and spectral information in a single image, eliminating the need for averaging or repeated experiments, even in the case of dynamic samples such as live organisms or combustion reactions with fast kinetics.
Since 1963, the R&D 100 Awards, which are selected by an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine, have identified revolutionary technologies newly introduced to the market, and have been recognized as a benchmark of excellence for industry sectors as diverse as telecom, high-energy physics, software, manufacturing, and biotechnology.
“We are proud to have our new Verde camera recognized by R&D Magazine as an innovative new product for 2011,” said Francis Ndi, lead Applications Scientist on the Verde Design and Development team. “Verde addresses the needs of field workers and industrial QC environments in which color monitoring and control are critical, such as in plasma monitoring in semiconductor foundries, and color quality control for fabrics, paints, foods, computer monitors and TVs.”
“HORIBA Scientific’s vision is to bring advanced spectroscopic technologies to our worldwide customer base to improve the quality of life and advance our understanding of the world we live in,” said Dr. Sal Atzeni, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “Our R&D efforts, both internal and collaborative, focus on innovative ways to use spectroscopy to address unique problems. Verde™ is an excellent example in which our work, in conjunction with the Snapshot Spectra team, resulted in a unique product that enables our customers to capture transient phenomena as hyperspectral data in a way never before possible.”
