PicoQuant will introduce a new supercontinuum white light laser at Photonics West 2013
Besides the white light laser, the German company will present two more new developments to the visitors.
Berlin (Germany), 5 December 2012 – PicoQuant GmbH will introduce three new product developments at SPIE Photonics West, held February 2 to 7, 2013 in San Francisco, USA: a supercontinuum white light laser with variable repetition rates and external triggering capabilities, a non-descanned detection unit with Hybrid-PMT detectors for laser scanning microscopes and the new SymPhoTime 64 software package for fluorescence microscopy applications.
The recently developed white light laser “Solea” will be shown to the public for the first time at SPIE Photonics West. The stand-alone, computer controlled system can be operated at a number of user-selectable internal repetition rates or even be externally triggered at any repetition rate between 1 MHz and 40 MHz or in pulse burst pattern. The extinction between each pulse is complete, and classical, contrast limited pulse pickers are not needed. The spectrum of the white light source spans from 480 nm to 700 nm. The laser integrates a tunable wavelength filter with variable bandwidth and a side mode suppression ratio as high as 50 dB. This novel filtering technique and the flexibility in pulse triggering makes the “Solea” an ideal excitation source for ultrasensitive applications like single-molecule detection and Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET).
The new non-descanned detection (NDD) unit for PicoQuant’s FLIM and FCS upgrade kit for laser scanning microscopes offers an excellent timing performance that permits to resolve fluorescence lifetimes down to 120 ps. This is achieved by a large core liquid light guide with high fluorescence transmission and Hybrid-PMT detectors. The fluorescence is collected very close to the objective to allow for deep tissue FLIM imaging. The high photon detection efficiency enables additional measurement modes like Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS). The NDD unit is available in a single or dual channel detector configuration and can be attached to both inverse and upright microscopes.
With the new SymPhoTime 64 software package, PicoQuant will present an integrated solution for fluorescence lifetime imaging and correlation that facilitates data acquisition as well as data analysis. A clearly structured layout and a wide range of customizable analysis procedures allows the user to focus on the results rather than on data processing. The SymPhoTime 64 is designed for a 64 bit operation system. It is the dedicated data acquisition software for PicoQuant’s time-resolved confocal microscopes, and FLIM and FCS upgrade kits for laser scanning microscopes.
PicoQuant’s new products and further time-resolved electro-optical instrumentation from the company’s product portfolio will be on display at the BiOS exhibition, part of the SPIE Photonics West, on February 2 and 3, 2013 at booth # 8611, and during the SPIE Photonics West exhibition on February 5 to 7 at booths # 611 (south hall) and # 5100 (north hall). The company will also present some of their latest scientific developments during the BiOS, LASE and OPTO conferences.
