Olympus Introduces cellSens® Version 1.4 Software, Optimized for Motorizing Microscope Components
CENTER VALLEY, Pa., November 4, 2010 – Olympus cellSens* software, leading the industry with its easy-to-use platform for capturing and analyzing microscope images, has just become even better. The latest version of the software, cellSens version 1.4, will control all the automated functions and components for the company’s recently introduced BX3® series motorized microscopes. Two motorized BX3 microscope stands, the BX53 Motorized Advanced Research Microscope and the BX43 Motorized Research and Clinical Microscope, both of which take full advantage of the new software, were introduced earlier this week.
The software controls both manual-encoded and motorized components for the two new Olympus microscope systems, including the instruments’ revolving nosepieces, fluorescence illuminators, universal condensers and the attenuation wheel that controls the intensity of the mercury light source for research fluorescence imaging. cellSens has been designed to be fully compatible with the Microsoft® Windows® 7 (32-bit) operating system.
An easy-to-use handset is available with many preset functions; the handset also can be customized so that specific hardware configurations can be turned into templates for repeated use in image capture or analysis. The software is extremely intuitive and capable; for instance, if the user sets the microscope at 20x and the software for FITC, the system can auto-adjust all of the hardware and image-capture settings to deliver the optimal image results.
With cellSens, even such advanced functions as deconvolution, cell counting, large area stitching, fluorescence unmixing and data sharing are fast and intuitive. Because the interface is simple to customize, users can streamline their individual workflows to provide more efficient imaging, processing, measurement, analysis and communication of their data. Measurement and analysis tools include freehand drawing and magic wand selection tools, and the system now supports basic journaling.
cellSens stores a record of all the image parameters together with each image captured, making it easy to return to the same vital settings with complete confidence in their accuracy. This envelope data storage capability also helps researchers collect, process and generate data more quickly and publish with greater ease. “Olympus requested user input to help us make the workflow even more seamless and intuitive to use. We have implemented many of these excellent suggestions in this latest cellSens release,” said Paul Jantzen, Application Specialist in the Scientific Equipment Group at Olympus. “Our customers know that we really listen.”
Olympus is instituting special incentives for users who have Olympus microscopes and want to step up to cellSens software.
