NT-MDT is Organizing the Workshop in The Framework of MRS Fall Meeting 2011
09.11.2011. — The workshop on “High-Resolution Visualization and Quantitative Studies of Local Properties with Atomic Force Microscopy” will be organized by NT-MDT Company in the framework of MRS Fall Meeting 2011 on the 30th of November 2011 from 2 pm till 5 pm.
In the presentation will be described the following issues: applications related to the high-resolution imaging and examination of elastic modulus (AFM-based nanoindentation), surface potential, and dielectric permittivity. Particular attention will be paid to Kelvin Force Microscopy (KFM) and dielectric (dC/dZ) studies, which are based on the electrostatic force and its gradient.

Also the different optimizations methods of the sensitivity and spatial resolution of these techniques will be discussed and demonstrated.
The equipment of the workshop is NTEGRA Prima by NT-MDT. NTEGRA Prima is the Probe NanoLaboratory for performing the most typical AFM tasks. It performs more than 40 measuring methods that allow one to analyze physical and chemical properties of the surface with high precision and resolution.
About the workshop presenters:
Dr. Sergei Magonov is the author of 13 chapters/reviews and 175 per-review papers. He got his PhD and has conducted research on polymers in the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1988 Dr. Magonov moved to Germany (Freiburg University) where he started to apply first scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and later atomic force microscopy (AFM) to different materials.
The scientific results obtained in this period were summarized in the book (written jointly with Prof. M. Whangbo) “Surface Analysis with STM and AFM”, VCH Weinheim 1996. In 1995 Sergei was involved in development of various AFM applications to soft materials and now he is continuing research in AFM. From the April 2011 Sergei is a Head of NT-MDT R&D Office in USA – NT-MDT Development.
Dr. Pavel Dorozhkin received PhD in Institute of Solid State Physics (Chernogolovka, Russia) in 2004 in the field of spectroscopy of individual semimagnetic quantum dots. While working in research (1999 – 2005), Pavel Dorozhkin was a visiting scientist in National Institute of Materials Science (Tsukuba, Japan) for about 3 years – investigating electrical and mechanical properties of semiconductor nanowires and carbon nanotubes. He also worked in Wurzburg University, (Germany) in the field of spectroscopy or quantum dots at helium temperatures and high magnetic fields. He has co-authored about 40 scientific papers, made about 40 oral conference presentations and headed a number of government research projects.
Pavel Dorozhkin joined NT-MDT in 2005. Now he is a Head of Product Management and Applications department at NT-MDT.
