Image Engineering: Video Module of IE-Analyzer 4.0 – The Missing Link
Video Module of IE-Analyzer 4.0 – The Missing Link
The Video Module is designed to link video sources to the powerful evaluation core of the IE-Analyzer 4.0. Just choose a proper test target, adjust your light source and camera and automatically grab a predefined number of frames. These frames are automatically passed on to the selectable IE-Analyzer module. The one for OECF (opto electronic conversion function) allows to determine the characteristic curve of a camera including dynamic range and noise analysis. The resolution module evaluates the contrast of fine detail in the image center as well as in the corners. Color analysis and distortion and shading measurement are other modules for a complete characterization of a digital capture system.
Besides grabbing frames for detailed analysis the Video Module also provides several tools that make your daily work more comfortable. It supports numerous hardware interfaces like the Multibridge Pro 2 by Blackmagic Design with its various interfaces including HD-SDI, a variety of frame grabbers as well as USB cameras and FireWire devices supporting the DCAM standard for uncompressed video. Depending on the interface it is possible to process a wide range of video signals, from analog PAL or NTSC signals up to digital Full HD and Cine 2K formats. These signals can be in different color modes like RGB, YCbCr or Grayscale.
Several windows provide the ideal viewing environment for each application.
1. Preview:
A preview window showing the live video and allowing a first visual evaluation. This helps you to easily set up your environment and adjust your camera’s position and the scenelighting.
2. Measurement:
Keep track of your video signal. Measurement instruments like histogram display, waveform monitor and vectorscope provide a quick overview.
Now it’s up to you:
– select a single video line to be analyzed on the preview panel,
– control sharpness using the luminance signal’s slope displayed on the waveform monitor,
– check chroma signals considering correct saturation or hue shift using the vectorscope in combination with a colorbar target, e.g. our TE 106,
– keep an eye on the exposure watching the histogram,
– switch between RGB, YCbCr or Grayscale color models and watch corresponding signals,
– select a Region of Interest (ROI) of your video, for signal analysis and much more…
3. Visual Color Comparison
You need to adjust the color of a camera to a virtual reference or a reference camera? No problem. The live image of a color test target is displayed in a way that each color patch is divided into the live color on one side and its reference on the other. This allows a fast and easy color adjustment since the human eye is a very sensitive instrument for color comparison especially for a side by side comparison. For precise numeric evaluation based on ISO and CIE standards just capture some frames and pass them on to the IE-Analyzer’s Color Module.
