JEOL ASEAN Technical Center to Open at Thailand Science Park (TSP)
November 2, 2011. — JEOL Ltd. (Gon’emon Kurihara, President) announced that their proposal to open a technical center, JEOL ASEAN Technical Center, in Thailand has been approved by the country’s National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Since 2004, the Thai government has stepped up their effort in developing technologies under the National Science and Technology Strategic Plan 2004-2013. Meanwhile, JEOL products, including electron microscopes, mass spectrometers, and NMR systems, have been widely used throughout Southeast Asia. The technical center will open at the Thailand Science Park (TSP) operated by the NSTDA, and will be used as a bases to provide technical support to the NSTDA, corporations, research institutes, and Japanese high tech firms in Southeast Asia and India. It will also upgrade and expand the research infrastructure in the area for local technological development.
National Metal and Materials Technology Center（MTEC） JEOL Asean Technical Center is scheduled to open in the MTEC
Shortly after the inception of the company, JEOL established local offices in the US and Europe, and has developed a renowned worldwide customer support network. Exploring the emerging markets is one of the critical issues in JEOL’s midterm business plan, Challenge 5 (2010 to 2012). As part of this plan, JEOL has already opened local offices in China, Brazil, Russia, and India. The technical center is a strategic move in helping the victims of recent flood and developing technical support programs featuring speedy response and innovative ideas for research and development in the growing Southeastern Asian market. The center is scheduled to open in January 2012.
《 Thailand Science Park (TSP) 》
The Thailand Science Park (TSP) is home to NSTDA and is hub for the private sector’s industrial R&D activities. It is positioned in an ideal location for companies to set up their R&D based operation in Thailand. In TSP, there are pilot plants, incubators, service centers, conference & exhibition area, training centers and space for rent. Tenants of TSP gain access to S&T support such as research labs and related facilities, large pool of over 600 full-time scientists and researchers and network of universities. They also enjoy privileges and incentives from Thai government.
《 National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) 》
NSTDA is an umbrella organization that plans and executes the four mandated missions: research and development, technology transfer, human resources development and infrastructure development. NSTDA comprises of four national research centers: BIOTEC (National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology), MTEC (National Metal and Materials Technology Center), NECTEC (National Electronics and Computer Technology Center) and NANOTEC (National Nanotechnology Center. In addition, NSTDA reaches out to other research organizations and universities through joint collaboration, contracted research, and other mechanisms to ensure the best resources are being captured for the country’s innovation needs. To tie all these together, the Technology Management Center (TMC) of NSTDA serves as a linkage between scientists and end users and provides applicable technology services.
JEOL is a world leader in electron optical equipment and instrumentation for high-end scientific and industrial research and development. Core product groups include electron microscopes (SEMs and TEMs), instruments for the semiconductor industry (electron beam lithography and a series of defect review and inspection tools), and analytical instruments including mass spectrometers, NMRs and ESRs.
