Edmund Optics® Kicks Off 70th Anniversary Celebration at Photonics West
January 10, 2012, Barrington, NJ USA — Edmund Optics®, the premier provider of optical components, recognizes 70 years of optical innovation, with an anniversary celebration starting at Photonics West. To kick off the event, EO is showcasing some of their favorite optics of the last 70 years alongside their newest optics demonstrations, including a must see Tunable Fluorescence Microscope demo built completely from off-the-shelf components.
EO’s catalog history stretches over seven decades to Norman Edmund’s first black and white catalog edition featuring a collection of WW2 optics intended for engineering hobbyists and photography enthusiasts. Since that time Edmund Optics has evolved into a premier industrial manufacturer of precision optics, with customers and facilities around the world. EO’s over 700 team members provide optics solutions and support to customers on six continents.
Some of the company’s historical highlights include the launch of EO’s first catalog in 1943, a trip to the moon for an EO lens in 1969, birth of TECHSPEC® optics in 1984, introduction of telecentric lenses in 1999, acquisition of two new optical manufacturing centers in 2000, introduction of MRF technology in 2004, and winning the PRISM Award for their TECHSPEC® Plastic Hybrid Aspheric Lenses in 2011. “People tell me I am crazy to keep mailing paper catalogs: in fact, most of our competitors have just about given up on the effort. I believe the EO catalog is so unique, so well produced, and so full of interesting products and technical info that I know customers appreciate receiving it,” said Robert Edmund, CEO. “Over the past seven decades, millions of people have found inspiration while browsing through our catalog. Major breakthroughs in science and technology have started right here in the Edmund Optics catalog, in fields ranging from factory automation to space exploration.”
