Carl Zeiss Acquires Danish Sales and Service Company
After 90 years of exclusive collaboration Brock & Michelsen is now to become part of the Carl Zeiss Group
Oberkochen, Germany — January 16, 2012
Effective 1 January 2012, Carl Zeiss acquired the sales and service company Brock & Michelsen, which was founded in 1905 and has been an exclusive distribution partner in Denmark since 1921. The two owners, Gregers Brock and Jørgen Brock, are the third generation of the family to head the company and are now handing over to Carl Zeiss. They will both remain active in the company over the next two years in order to support a smooth transition, particularly in the areas of customer care and service.
The more than 40 employees market Carl Zeiss products for almost all business groups. The support provided covers customers in the areas of Microscopy, Industrial Metrology, Medical Technology, photogrammetry and Consumer Optics products such as, for instance, binoculars and camera lenses.
“Denmark is a traditional market for Carl Zeiss. We will not only continue our sales operations, but will also further expand the company’s leading market position. On behalf of the Carl Zeiss Executive Board I want to thank Brock & Michelsen for many years of good and successful cooperation,” said Thomas Spitzenpfeil, CFO of Carl Zeiss AG and the Member of the Executive Board responsible for the European sales and service companies. “A long, eventful and successful history links Carl Zeiss with the Brock family. Both partners now have a good solution for the future success story.” Gregers Brock added, “The integration into the Carl Zeiss Group opens a new chapter for the sales and service company in Denmark.”
Also effective 1 January 2012, Alexander Ola took office as Managing Director of Brock & Michelsen. Together with Gregers Brock and Jørgen Brock he will be responsible for the integration process and the further development of the sales and service company. Ola said: “Gregers and Jørgen Brock have played an active role in the company for more than 40 years. I am very pleased that both of them will support us going forward.”
”It is a great pleasure for us to hand over our very well-established family company to Carl Zeiss AG. Together with Alexander Ola and colleagues from Carl Zeiss, we will work hard on further strengthening our already very strong market position and increasing our very high market share in most of our product areas,” says Jørgen Brock.
“Carl Zeiss AG will take over a well-run company with an outstanding spirit and culture which have characterized it right from its founding in 1905. All employees at Brock & Michelsen have excellent ZEISS know-how and foster very good customer relations. We are proud that this tradition can be carried on and further cultivated in our future membership of the Carl Zeiss Group,” Gregers Brock added.
