Calmar Laser, Inc. Introduces High Power, Ultra Compact, Mendocino 780 nm Femtosecond Fiber Laser
Sunnyvale, CA, March 17, 2011 — Calmar Laser Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of ultrafast fiber lasers, has added a high power, ultra compact, 780 nm femtosecond fiber laser to its highly successful Mendocino family.
The Mendocino model FPL-05RFF0 offers record-setting performance for a commercial fiber-based system with over 500 mW of output power and a pulse width of 150 fs in a revolutionary, ultra compact package (3.0 x 3.0 x 13.5 cm, w x h x l). It provides a reliable 50 MHz train of femtosecond pulses that have a near pedestal-free shape and exceptional pulse-to-pulse stability.

The output beam has roundness better than 90% and M2 < 1.1, which enables optimal spatial resolution when used in conjunction with microscope systems. The laser is completely air-cooled and does not require a chiller. Designed for OEM and scientific biophotonics applications, the model FPL-05RFF0 is nearly 300 times smaller than comparable power femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser systems. The all-fiber architecture provides customers with significantly enhanced reliability, improved stability, and a reduced cost of ownership. The small compact head facilitates easy integration into microscope systems and bio-instrumentation. “This new high power Mendocino system has been developed through a close cooperation with our key OEM and scientific customers”, commented Tony Lin, President and CEO. “It represents a continuation of our strategic initiative to bring increasingly more compact and cost–effective ultrafast lasers to our customer base with a specific application focus. We now offer high power, femtosecond performance in a laser-pointer style package. Our customers will be able to bring high power, ultrafast pulses directly to their sample in the smallest spaces”. With its ultra compact laser head and high power at 780 nm, the new Mendocino laser will enable scientists and industrial end users to further expand their applications in such diverse fields as multiphoton microscopy, biomedical imaging, nonlinear material characterization, terahertz radiation, micromachining, metrology, and free space communication. Calmar will premier the latest member of the Mendocino family during BIOS and Photonics West, January 22-27th, 2011 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA. Please visit our booth #8529 and #529, to learn more about the laser and discuss your application needs. About Calmar Laser
